Best Mushroom Coffee UK 2026: 7 Brands Tried & Compared

28 August 2026

Best Mushroom Coffee UK 2026: 7 Brands Tried & Compared

If you are looking for the best mushroom coffee in the UK, the first thing to understand is that two products using the words “mushroom coffee” can be very different drinks. One may use ground mushroom powder, another a concentrated extract, another may publish a beta-glucan percentage, and another may simply print a very large mushroom milligram number on the front of the pack.

That makes headline dosage a poor way to compare the category on its own. For this guide we looked at beta-glucan standardisation, actual extract dose, extract specification, testing, caffeine, formulation, value and taste. We also personally tried every mushroom coffee in this comparison.

Ancient Extracts makes Morning Magic, one of the products below, so this is not presented as an independent consumer-magazine review. We have made our criteria visible, shown where competitors genuinely outperform us, and separated published product specifications from our own taste judgement. Product details were checked on 28 August 2026.

Our best overall pick
Ancient Extracts Morning Magic Decaf Mushroom Coffee
Three separate 15:1 mushroom extracts, each standardised to 30% beta-glucans, with every dose disclosed. That works out at approximately 252mg of beta-glucans per 6g serving from the published specification, alongside naturally decaffeinated Arabica and the best taste in our comparison. In simple terms, it gives you the Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga formula people are looking for from mushroom coffee without making the drink taste like mushrooms.

How We Compared the Mushroom Coffees

Beta-glucan standardisation and extract transparency. This is one of the most important parts of our comparison. A product saying “1,000mg mushrooms” does not tell you whether that is raw powder, an extract, a concentrated extract or how much beta-glucan the ingredient is standardised to contain. We gave more credit when brands disclosed the mushroom species, extract dose and beta-glucan percentage rather than relying on one large marketing number.

Actual amount per serving. Percentage is only half the story. A 45% extract at 250mg and a 30% extract at 840mg total are not the same thing. Where a brand clearly publishes both dose and beta-glucan percentage, we can calculate an approximate amount from those specifications.

Taste. We tried every product in this guide because mushroom coffee still has to be something you actually want to drink. There is little point buying an impressive-looking functional formula if the earthy flavour makes it sit untouched in the cupboard. Morning Magic was our favourite overall, with a smooth mocha-style coffee and no noticeable mushroom taste in our testing.

Testing and quality assurance. We looked for clear statements around independent or third-party testing and for brands that give customers useful information about what is actually in the product.

Caffeine profile. Mushroom coffee does not automatically mean low caffeine. Some products remain close to conventional coffee, while others are lower-caffeine or decaf. We do not treat caffeine itself as bad; we assess whether the caffeine level is clearly disclosed and whether it suits the purpose of the product.

Overall formulation and value. We considered additional mushrooms, adaptogens, serving size, preparation, price and whether the formula makes sense as an everyday drink rather than ranking solely by a single ingredient.

Beta-Glucans: The Number Most Mushroom Coffee Comparisons Miss

Beta-glucans are naturally occurring polysaccharides found in the cell walls of mushrooms. For shoppers comparing functional mushroom products, a declared beta-glucan percentage can be a much more informative specification than the total weight of “mushrooms” alone.

But the percentage still needs context. Imagine Product A uses 250mg of an extract standardised to 45% beta-glucans. Based on the published specification, that equates to around 112.5mg. Product B might use 840mg of extracts standardised to 30%, equating to around 252mg in total. Product A has the higher percentage; Product B supplies the larger calculated amount.

Morning Magic's published specification: 280mg Lion's Mane 15:1 extract at 30% beta-glucans + 280mg Cordyceps 15:1 extract at 30% + 280mg Chaga 15:1 extract at 30%. That is 840mg of standardised extracts and approximately 252mg beta-glucans per serving when calculated from the stated specification.

That does not mean Morning Magic has the highest beta-glucan percentage in this comparison. It does not. DIRTEA publishes a figure above 40%, while London Nootropics Flow publishes 45% for its Lion's Mane extract. What distinguishes Morning Magic is that the 30% standardisation is disclosed across all three of its mushroom extracts, with the individual dose of each extract also shown.

That is why we think the fairest comparison is not “who has the biggest number?” but what is the ingredient, how much is used, what is it standardised to, and how clearly does the brand tell you?

OUR #1 PICK

1. Ancient Extracts Morning Magic Decaf Mushroom Coffee

Best overall and best tasting

Ancient Extracts Morning Magic decaf mushroom coffee, our best mushroom coffee UK pick

For a lot of people, mushroom coffee sounds great right up until they imagine actually drinking something that tastes like mushrooms. Morning Magic was developed around solving that exact problem.

The idea was to keep the functional side of the drink serious while making the cup itself feel familiar. So instead of building a mushroom drink and trying to make it vaguely coffee-like, Morning Magic starts with real naturally decaffeinated Arabica coffee and layers in Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga alongside Ashwagandha, Maca root, Rhodiola, cocoa and a small amount of coconut sugar.

The mushroom specification is where the product becomes much more interesting. Each 6g serving contains 280mg Lion's Mane 15:1 extract, 280mg Cordyceps 15:1 extract and 280mg Chaga 15:1 extract. All three are standardised to 30% beta-glucans.

Using those published figures, 280mg at 30% equates to approximately 84mg beta-glucans from each extract. Across all three, that is approximately 252mg of beta-glucans per serving. Again, that is a calculation from our stated ingredient specification rather than a claim about a separate finished-product beta-glucan assay.

The distinction matters. Morning Magic does not have the highest beta-glucan percentage in this guide. London Nootropics publishes 45% on its Lion's Mane extract and DIRTEA publishes above 40%. Morning Magic's advantage is that all three mushroom extracts are individually dosed, concentrated at 15:1 and standardised to 30%. You do not have to guess what percentage applies to which part of a multi-mushroom blend.

It is also third-party lab tested and based on naturally decaffeinated Arabica. For someone who likes the ritual of coffee but does not want a strong caffeine hit to be the main reason they are drinking it, that changes the experience quite a lot.

What does Morning Magic taste like?

This is where Morning Magic really separated itself for us.

People are not buying mushroom coffee because they want their morning drink to taste like mushrooms. They are buying it because they want Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga to become an easy part of their daily routine. The problem is that concentrated mushroom ingredients can easily push a drink towards an earthy, functional or obviously “mushroomy” flavour.

Morning Magic gives you the Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga formula without making you taste it.

You are still getting three concentrated 15:1 mushroom extracts, all standardised to 30% beta-glucans, alongside Ashwagandha, Maca and Rhodiola. But when you actually drink it, none of that dominates the cup.

In our tasting, there was no noticeable mushroom taste at all. It drinks much more like a smooth mocha, with roasted decaf Arabica, cocoa, a little sweetness and a rounded coffee finish. Avoiding that earthy mushroom flavour was part of the product-development brief rather than an accidental side effect.

That balance is a big part of why we ranked it first. You should not have to choose between the functional mushroom formula you are buying the product for and a coffee you genuinely enjoy drinking every morning. Morning Magic manages to do both.

Morning Magic mushroom coffee taste profile

Where competitors beat it. DIRTEA publishes the strongest beta-glucan specification in this group on a single Lion's Mane extract. London Nootropics publishes a higher beta-glucan percentage on its Lion's Mane. MOGU and Spacegoods publish substantially larger total mushroom extract quantities. DIRTEA can also work out cheaper per serving depending on current pack pricing.

Those are genuine strengths, but none of them changes why Morning Magic came first for us. It brings together three fully standardised extracts, transparent individual doses, decaf coffee, third-party testing, supporting adaptogens and the strongest taste in our comparison in one drink that still feels like something you would actually look forward to making.

Best for: people who want a serious multi-mushroom formula without the earthy mushroom taste, and who prefer a coffee-style drink rather than a highly caffeinated functional powder.

2. DIRTEA Mushroom Coffee

Best published beta-glucan specification

DIRTEA Mushroom Coffee reviewed for best mushroom coffee UK
DIRTEA Mushroom Coffee product reviewed

DIRTEA is probably the product here that will appeal most to someone who wants to keep things simple and put Lion's Mane front and centre. Its current Mushroom Coffee provides 1,000mg of Lion's Mane extract per serving, and the brand publishes a specification of more than 40% beta-glucans. It also specifies fruiting-body material and dual extraction.

That is a strong specification and it deserves to be treated as one. If your main question is “which coffee gives me a large, clearly specified Lion's Mane dose?”, DIRTEA is one of the strongest answers in this comparison.

Where it differs from Morning Magic is the style of formula. DIRTEA is much more focused around one mushroom, while Morning Magic spreads its formulation across Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga and then adds Ashwagandha, Maca and Rhodiola. Some people will actually prefer the simpler approach, especially if Lion's Mane is the only mushroom they care about.

Where it beats Morning Magic. Higher published beta-glucan percentage on its core Lion's Mane extract and a larger single-mushroom dose.

Best for: buyers who want a concentrated Lion's Mane-focused mushroom coffee and prioritise the strongest published beta-glucan specification.

3. MOGU Mushroom Coffee

Best for a high disclosed multi-mushroom extract dose

MOGU Mushroom Coffee reviewed for best mushroom coffee UK comparison
MOGU Mushroom Coffee product reviewed

MOGU stands out immediately because it publishes a lot of mushroom extract per serving: 800mg Lion's Mane, 1,000mg Cordyceps and 200mg Chaga. That gives it a total of 2,000mg of disclosed mushroom extracts, which is substantially more than Morning Magic on a straight milligram comparison.

The company also emphasises fruiting-body extracts and independent testing, which is exactly the kind of transparency we want to see. What we could not locate on the product information reviewed was a precise beta-glucan percentage for each extract. That does not make the extracts poor quality; it simply means we cannot compare their standardisation as directly as we can with Morning Magic, DIRTEA or London Nootropics.

If you are the kind of shopper who looks at the label and wants a big multi-mushroom dose, MOGU will be very appealing. We simply do not think “2,000mg beats 840mg” is enough on its own to settle a quality comparison when the extract specifications are not equivalent.

Where it beats Morning Magic. Much higher total disclosed mushroom-extract milligrams per serving.

Best for: people who want substantial published amounts of Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga in a relatively straightforward coffee formula.

4. London Nootropics Flow

Best single-serve option

London Nootropics Flow mushroom coffee reviewed
London Nootropics Flow product reviewed

London Nootropics Flow is the easiest product here to throw in a bag and forget about until you need it. Each sachet gives you a measured serving, so there is no scoop, no weighing and no guessing.

It also deserves credit for publishing a meaningful mushroom specification: 250mg Lion's Mane extract standardised to 45% beta-glucans, alongside Rhodiola.

Forty-five per cent is higher than Morning Magic's 30%, but dose matters too. At 250mg, 45% equates to approximately 112.5mg beta-glucans from the published specification. Morning Magic's three 280mg extracts at 30% equate to approximately 252mg in total. That is why we keep coming back to the same point: percentages make much more sense when you read them alongside the amount of extract actually used.

If convenience matters more to you than having a broader multi-mushroom formula, Flow is probably the better choice. For our overall ranking it loses ground because it is narrower and more like a conventional caffeinated coffee experience.

Where it beats Morning Magic. Higher beta-glucan percentage on its Lion's Mane extract and much better single-serve convenience.

Best for: commuters and travellers who want a precisely measured Lion's Mane and Rhodiola sachet.

5. Balance Lion's Mane Coffee

Best traditional ground coffee

Balance Lion's Mane Coffee reviewed for UK mushroom coffee guide
Balance Lion's Mane Coffee product reviewed

Balance is the one we would point to if you are a coffee person first and a functional-mushroom shopper second. It feels much closer to a normal speciality coffee product than an instant adaptogen blend.

The brand publishes around 1,800mg organic Lion's Mane powder per cup and puts significant emphasis on coffee sourcing and third-party testing for contaminants. We could not locate a precise beta-glucan percentage on the product information reviewed, so we would not treat its 1,800mg powder number as directly equivalent to 1,800mg of a concentrated, standardised extract.

That does not make the product worse. It just means it is solving a slightly different problem. If you enjoy using a cafetière, V60 or moka pot and do not want to give up that ritual, Balance is one of the most natural ways into mushroom coffee.

Where it beats Morning Magic. Traditional speciality-coffee experience and conventional brewing flexibility.

Best for: existing filter, cafetière and ground-coffee drinkers who want to add Lion's Mane without changing how they make coffee.

6. Free Soul Wake

Best broad lifestyle blend

Free Soul Wake Mushroom Coffee reviewed in UK comparison
Free Soul Wake product reviewed

Free Soul Wake is probably the easiest product here to understand at a glance. It combines four mushrooms with KSM-66 Ashwagandha, turmeric and other supporting ingredients, and it still keeps a moderate caffeine level for people who want some of that familiar morning lift.

The current formula publishes around 800mg total mushroom ingredients, with 200mg of each mushroom, and around 65mg caffeine.

It is an approachable all-in-one blend and the ingredient list looks broad without feeling overly technical. Under our methodology it ranks lower mainly because we could not locate the same precise beta-glucan standardisation for its mushrooms on the product information reviewed.

Where it beats Morning Magic. Four different mushroom species and an accessible mainstream lifestyle positioning.

Best for: people who want a broad ingredient blend and still prefer a moderate caffeine lift.

7. Spacegoods Rainbow Dust

Best for a high-dose adaptogen-style formula

Spacegoods Rainbow Dust mushroom coffee reviewed in UK comparison
Spacegoods Rainbow Dust product reviewed

Spacegoods is the most “everything in one scoop” product in this comparison. Its standard coffee version lists 1,000mg Lion's Mane, 1,000mg Cordyceps and 1,000mg Chaga alongside Ashwagandha, Maca and coffee-derived caffeine.

That is a substantial declared mushroom dose and it is easy to see why the product has become so visible. We could not locate an exact beta-glucan percentage for the three extracts on the current product information reviewed, so we have not attempted to turn the 3,000mg headline into a beta-glucan number.

The standard version also sits much closer to a caffeinated functional drink, at roughly 80–120mg caffeine. Spacegoods now has a wider range including decaf options, but the standard Rainbow Dust formula is still a different proposition from Morning Magic's decaf coffee-replacement positioning.

Where it beats Morning Magic. Far larger total published mushroom quantities in the standard formula.

Best for: somebody who specifically wants a large all-in-one functional blend and is comfortable with a stronger caffeine dose.

Which Mushroom Coffee Tastes Best?

For us, Morning Magic was the easiest winner on taste.

What impressed us was not simply that it tasted good for a mushroom coffee. If we handed someone a cup without telling them what was in it, we do not think their first reaction would be “mushrooms”.

It tastes much closer to a smooth mocha-style coffee: roasted decaf Arabica, cocoa, a little sweetness and no noticeable mushroom flavour in our testing. Yet behind that flavour is a formula containing concentrated Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga extracts, plus Ashwagandha, Maca and Rhodiola.

That is really the point of Morning Magic: all of the functional formulation, without forcing the functional ingredients into the flavour.

Taste is obviously personal, but when something is designed to become part of a daily routine, drinkability matters just as much as what is written on the ingredient panel. Morning Magic was the one we most wanted to make another cup of.

What to Look for When Buying Mushroom Coffee

1. Look past the total mushroom milligrams. Ask whether the ingredient is powder or extract, whether an extract ratio is supplied, and whether the dose is stated for each mushroom.

2. Check beta-glucan standardisation. A published percentage gives useful context, but read it together with the amount of extract used. A higher percentage does not always equal a higher amount per serving.

3. Do not assume extract ratios are directly comparable. A 15:1 ratio describes the concentration process, but it does not automatically make one extract fifteen times “better” than another product. Standardisation and testing still matter.

4. Check caffeine. Mushroom coffee can be decaf, moderately caffeinated or close to a conventional cup. Choose based on what you actually want from the drink.

5. Look for testing and traceability. A serious functional-food brand should be willing to explain its ingredient specification and quality controls.

6. Buy something you will actually drink. This sounds obvious, but it matters. If you hate the earthy taste, the cleverest label in the world will not make you use the product every morning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best mushroom coffee in the UK?

Our overall choice for 2026 is Ancient Extracts Morning Magic. We rank it first for the combination of three individually disclosed 15:1 mushroom extracts standardised to 30% beta-glucans, approximately 252mg calculated beta-glucans per serving from those specifications, third-party testing, decaf Arabica and the best taste in our first-hand comparison. Just as importantly, it gives you a multi-mushroom formula without a noticeable mushroom taste in the cup.

Which mushroom coffee has the highest beta-glucan percentage?

Among the products in this comparison where we found a precise published figure, London Nootropics Flow lists 45% beta-glucans for its Lion's Mane extract and DIRTEA publishes above 40%. Morning Magic publishes 30% across each of three separate mushroom extracts. Percentage should be read alongside the extract dose rather than compared alone.

How many beta-glucans are in Morning Magic?

Morning Magic contains 280mg each of Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga extracts, with each standardised to 30% beta-glucans. Calculating 30% of the combined 840mg extract dose gives approximately 252mg beta-glucans per serving. This is a calculation from the published ingredient specification, not a separate finished-product assay.

Is a higher beta-glucan percentage always better?

No. The percentage must be considered alongside how much extract is actually used. For example, 250mg at 45% equates to approximately 112.5mg, while 840mg at 30% equates to approximately 252mg. Species, extraction, testing and formulation matter too.

Does mushroom coffee contain caffeine?

Often, yes. Some products in this comparison contain a moderate or conventional coffee-like caffeine dose, while Morning Magic is based on decaffeinated Arabica. Always check the individual product rather than assuming mushroom coffee means low caffeine.

What does mushroom coffee taste like?

It varies widely by formula. Some blends have earthy notes, while others are designed to taste much closer to coffee. In our comparison Morning Magic had no noticeable mushroom taste and was the closest to a smooth mocha-style coffee experience.

Is Morning Magic third-party lab tested?

Yes. Morning Magic is third-party lab tested for quality and consistency, and Ancient Extracts maintains an online lab-reports section for customers who want to review available testing information.

Final Verdict

There are genuinely good reasons to choose several of the coffees in this list.

DIRTEA is an excellent choice if you want a large, highly specified Lion's Mane dose. London Nootropics publishes the highest beta-glucan percentage we found, at 45% on Flow's Lion's Mane extract. MOGU and Spacegoods publish much larger total mushroom quantities. Balance is the most natural fit if you simply love traditional ground coffee and want to keep brewing it the same way.

But the product we would choose for the best all-round mushroom coffee is still Ancient Extracts Morning Magic.

It is not because it wins every individual number. It does not. It is because the whole product fits together unusually well: three separate 15:1 extracts at 280mg each, every one standardised to 30% beta-glucans, approximately 252mg calculated beta-glucans per serving, third-party testing, naturally decaffeinated Arabica, supporting adaptogens and the best taste in our comparison.

Most importantly, Morning Magic solves the problem that puts a lot of people off mushroom coffee in the first place. You can get the Lion's Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga formula you came for without sitting there drinking something that tastes like mushrooms. In our testing it tasted like a smooth mocha, and that makes the technical specification far more useful because it is actually enjoyable enough to become part of a daily routine.
